I completely relate to the ikea idea project shelf dilemma😅 What I do is stuff all my upcoming projects into a box. That way it’s neatly tucked away but the box is big enough to capture my attention and remind me to periodically work on my projects

Ugh I love your reflections because they always hit home and hold up a mirror! Therapy right now feels like I’m in a stuck place and my therapist ain’t therapizing. Lol. Because all the tools and coping mechanisms in my toolbox have outgrown their capacity and I need new tools and new perspective to get out of the rut. And hearing you say “therapy is about learning to cope when it turns out you’re right” was 🤯🤯. Lemme go ahead and make this new appointment with these people because I need to figure out how to cope through my stuff when it turns out I’m right. Always appreciate you and your mind! It’s truly a gift that you’re learning in public and you’re giving us permission and a gentle nudge to do the same! I love having a WIP (works in progress) shelf. I have project baskets that have all the materials I need to do whatever the project is so I can make use of 30 extra minutes instead of scrolling my phone. Or at least that’s the plan and it works some of the time!

I have ADHD. I’m a lonely girlie too and I have Mu head all over the place. Anyway, i started using the app called Finch. It’s a cute bird that reminds me to what to do and I can do lists. She’s supportive too. It helped me more than my calendar did as for now.

11:11 lemme start by saying I do _not_ have a consistent long term system, but I have recently found that going through and reorganizing, or even just occasionally holding, things that are on "the shelf" helps things to get moved through more quickly and not sit there for months. I also made a list of my ongoing (mostly intangible) projects on my whiteboard since I look at it daily and it's easily changeable. That helps give me direction when I'm stuck for something to do as well.

I give myself a 6 month to one year rule if I don’t do the project in that time then it’s a get rid of it also has to be visible to me or I will forget so clear containers 👌

paper sorting is not for the weak!! ok for the tamagochi you could make that into a magnet. the ribbon can be used as a bookmark + maybe if you decide to get rid of the ikea shelf the pending art projects can go in the newly emptied clear bins on the other shelf🎉❤ I wish you and i both luck with the paper sorting 😢😅❤

or the hobby to do list shelf: something i do is each week (preferably each day lol) i put an art project in the cubby by my front door where i grab my keys and wallet as a reminder to finish the thing. example: i try to keep my camera by my door as a reminder to shoot and to get the film developed

re: your project question. block time, yes…but specifically to do the thing (rather than a regular time). that way you get projects in where they fit in.

My daughters love playing with the mini brands and their littlest pet shop and lol dolls. So don’t throw away the ones you don’t want to turn into magnets. I’m sure someone with little girls would love to have them for their toys. They love having little meals and pretending to cook with their little mini brands pieces.

Maybe you could use the cubby you freed up as your new projects shelf instead of the ikea ladder shelf? I feel like the shelf by the door is well placed though but maybe better for decor or displaying cameras? (Round rock daiso sells these cute clear acrylic boxes perfect size for cameras and keeps them free from dust) because maybe the ikea ladder shelf is so prominent in the room it feels like your undone projects are mocking you or drawing your attention away from what you’re currently working on!
